We divided the Hosta’s from the deck pot into 2 larger and 2 smaller plants today, and recovered a small piece of Hosta from the pot that contained Joan’s plant. We now have two deck pots, one also containg Joan’s Hosta, and the cistern, which has the 2 smaller plants.
THe RHS propagation book was very helpful. Now is the best time for division, as the emerging new shoots are a guide to healthy peices of the plant. We used the billhook knife to cut the pieces, kept them moist, and washed off the crowns, as recommended. But we didn’t have powder to dust the cut flesh.
